Samson Senior Properties draws upon the nearly two decades of management, transactional, and legal experience of Laurence D. (Larry) Rich, the company's founder.
Prior to forming Samson, Mr. Rich served as Vice President of Acquisitions for a New York Stock Exchange-listed real estate investment trust specializing in the long-term care and senior housing industries. Mr. Rich was responsible for closing over $200,000,000 in sale leaseback and mortgage transactions, providing financing to operators of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. He also managed the REIT's $800,000,000 core portfolio of long-term care assets. Mr. Rich's ability to creatively structure transactions in a highly regulated operational environment allowed the REIT to successfully weather the effects of a prolonged downward trend in the long-term care sector.
Previously, Mr. Rich was an attorney with two highly regarded law firms: one, an international firm headquartered in Philadelphia, and the other, Michigan's largest law firm. Mr. Rich's practice focused in the areas of real estate, business transactions, and bankruptcy. His clients included real estate developers, lenders, REITs, debtors and creditors, and business owners, including owners/operators of long-term care facilities.
Before embarking on his legal career, Mr. Rich gained significant management and real estate experience in his capacity as Director of Operations for a large Detroit-area developer and builder of single- and multi-family residences. He also worked in various executive-level positions for a national manufacturer of building products.
Mr. Rich earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Business Administration degree from Emory University, and a Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Detroit School of Law.
